First dates are like interviews. You have to get to know one another. I would try to find out about his life. On a first date, you do not ask about deep details of a past relationship. You can ask, but just don't get too into the details. If he's not too talkative, then just talk away. DON'T COMPLAIN ABOUT WORK. Guys don't care and don't want to hear about it. Usually there are a few things people talk about on a first date. you could ask about his childhood, about his school/work, motivation for going into that field of study or work area, goals for the future, and other questions along those lines. You could also talk about a recent movie you have seen together. Ask him what his favorite movie is, book, car, sport , that sort of thing. Talk about your day, ask him about his, just keep talking, it only gets awkward when there is a silence. Thats all i can think of, good luck.
