My cat just got neutered, can you give me any advice on what to do for the next couple of weeks?

Neutered is a gender inspecific term so could apply to either male or female. (Spay is for females %26amp; castrate is for males). Assuming you are using it to describe the surgery given to a male cat, there is absolutely nothing you need to do. If the vet used sutures, they are the dissovable type so will not need to be removed. Your cat will take care of cleaning himself. He can jump, play, eat, use the litterbox, all without any risk of hurting himself, so just let him do whatever he wants to do.





Advice is same if your cat is female, except she may not feel as much like jumping for the first day or two and she will need her sutures removed after 10 days or so. You'd be surprised though, how quickly they get over surgery - especially if they are around the six-month age.





Someone above said to withhold water for 24 hours - I'm not sure why this advice was given but its BAD advice. Cats are one of the simplest to alter. There are no sutures and most people notice virtually no recovery time needed.
Be nice to the cat, make sure it has food and water, and comfortable places to lay and sleep.
Just make sure he doesn't try to clean the area. He could rupture a stitch and then it could get infected. If he insists on trying to clean it, tell your vet.
just leave him alone unless he wants to be held, let him be the boss for awhile, just keep his litter box really clean during healing to keep him will.
he/she should be fine in a day or 2. Doesn't take long to heal.

Oh, you're doing the shredded newspaper in the litter box thing, aren't you? It is no fun really, but he'll get over it. Just try to make sure he doesn't decide to hate you before then! Just be really sweet to him.
They heal real fast. I would try not to let him do any unnessary jumping around but they will heal in a few days . Just take a little extra care and make sure that you keep the litter box clean to prevent infections. They will be licking themselfsa lot. for a few days but not to worry. I have had several cats spayed and neutered. You don't need to do anything special. He should heal normally unless he develops an infection or something. Be on the lookout for any drainage. Other than that, just be careful because he will probably be tender there for a while.
just TRY and keep him calm, will be hard. when my 2 got neutered we got them home thinking it will be a relaxing evening. they ran right out of that crate and didn't want to slow down. I took the next day off of work to be with them which was good because I had to spend much of the day trying to keep them from running around too much. had to put them in their crates a few times when they got too roudy.
Don't keep him in a crate, that will only install more fear in the animal! I have owned cats all my life and had them all neutered. No water for the first 24 hours, after that, the kitty should be fine. Some cats are resentful at first, so maybe buy extra treats and catnip is a hit with most cats. Lotta love is all it needs.
Just keep a good eye on it and if anything goes wrong ask your vet
Did the vet give you special litter? They gave me some called yesterday's news. It was made of old newspapers. Just wach him closely...make sure he is going potty. They usually heal pretty quick! Give him lots of love mommy!
Male cats heal quickly from being fixed. Mine were back to normal ina day or so. The main thing u need to do is keep an eye on their stool, and make sure they are peeing okay. They'll try and lick and clean themselves where the stiches are, so if your around try to not let him do that. its not THAT big of a deal, but it'll help the healing go faster. Dont smack him for doing it or anything, just direct his attention else where. In a few weeks, he'll be 90% healed. Good Luck! Thanks for Nuetering the cat!
keep him in a crate until his stitches dissappear or they have to be removed...
