Advice on couple starting a small business.?

I am starting a dog sitting business in new york state. I will be doing most of the work, but from time to time my husband will assit me. We like our taxes to be simple as possible, right now we file jointly. I am not planning to get rich with this business, i will proably at the most make 150 dollars a week. I can't decide if i should go with a Sole Proprietor or a partnership? is there a difference in cost?Advice on couple starting a small business.?
To keep it simple, you would be wise to form your business as a sole proprietor. Not only for tax purposes, but for accounting and recordkeeping purposes as well. When you start getting into the LLC and S Corp formations, you have to hold meetings and record minutes and every decision must be documented -- it can be a real pain.

Best wishes with your endeavor.Advice on couple starting a small business.?
I am not a tax specialist but the sole proprietor form of business is the simplest. Partnership accounting, depending upon the type of business and the amount of activity of the partners, can be more complicated.

A cost difference would be whatever New York might require for any licenses.
