I've lived all my life in this predominately White neighborhood not far from Dallas. Six years back I met my husband (Black) who moved with me and since that very day, me and my family (including my parents) have been experiencing subtle racism from MANY people.
My friends who grew up with me, suddenly dropped out of sight in the pretext of being busy -they no longer invite me to BBQ's, picnics and social gatherings. The neighbors simply shut the doors . All was OK until the birth of my 2 kids and things are beyond recovery now. We get constant stares whenever we go out as a family...the supermarket staff refuse to smile when filling our cart...servers in my favorite restaurant no longer seem happy and enthusiastic with me...my kids have no playmates in the whole neighborhood and this is what really breaks my heart. They're too small and innocent to first-hand experience all this hatred in the world.
Our finances are not good so we can't afford to pack up from this place.Any mixed-race couples do you find Texas racist, please advice?
I'm from New Orleans but I've been living in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area for two years now and I'm not the least bit surprised at what your saying. Texans are (not all but in general) very conservative and narrow-minded, after all, this Bush country, need I say more. I'd hate to tell you that you should move to a more socially advanced and less judgmental place because you shouldn't have to, but I would if I were you. When I'm done with my work here, I'm getting out, because as a minority (black male) who's going to be looking to buy a house in a nice area, I would probably get stuck in a white neighborhood that doesn't want me despite my degrees or pleasant demeanor.Any mixed-race couples do you find Texas racist, please advice?
You should live in a larger city that has more racial diversity...like move into Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, etc. It'll also expose your kids to all different cultures and they won't exprience as much racism as they would somewhere smaller.
I'm from TX, and I don't find it too difficult to be in an interracial relationship. Sure, if you go into the po-dunk parts, you'll run into your stereotypical hillbillies, but I can't say that I've had any trouble with my IR relationships. At most, we've had people stare... which we've encountered in other states as well. I';m not sure what town you're from.. that might have something to do with it... but in the more populated areas you might not experience that as much. I'm sorry you have to go through that
Edit: I didn't mean to imply that you live in an uncivilized area or anything. I hope you didn't take offense to the way that came out :)
So sorry to hear that. I worry about his too. I have a child who is asian/black/white. I researched areas in Florida because I was very worried about this sort of thing happening to my child. And I was worried for myself and my husband because we are hell on wheels when warranted and I don't see how I could mentally tolerate someone dissing my child because she's ';mixed.'; I found that Broward County is very multicultural AND one of the safest counties in Florida. No one race really dominates and I think that's perfect for us. And it's a middle class county. Very good schools and whatnot.
I think it's really pathetic that adults can take out their hatred on small children, not allowing kids to play with kids because of race. Everyone's always talking about racism this and that, but in the end, it's THEM who are perpetuating this crap! Race issues are bad because WE as adults allow them to be! It makes me so angry that stupid people can't judge people based off character. The inability to use logic is mindblowing. And how shallow and fake of these people to not want to be your friend anymore. Good riddance. And even the ones who aren't die hard racists don't have the backbone to say Screw what people think. Either way it's truly pathetic from a moral POV. No character.
I say, try to save up and move somewhere where you won't be around a bunch of uneducated, sheltered, close-minded buffoons.
Come to Broward County. We can all hang out and start an interracial network or something!
Take care and Stay Strong!
Well I'm from TX and yes THEY ARE RACIST!
Well I certainly hope not since my love interest is White and he lives in Texas. That sucks. I'm sorry to hear that. You are probably better off without them.
Im live in DFW area... No problem here... Mexican wife, kids are mixed all up... No problems though..
Lina H is a bigot. She should be tied to a bumper and... oh.. sorry, my white boy coming out..lol
Well im sorry to hear that. I know you find it everywhere. Those people arent friends if they did that to you. I live in SA and not many people i have ran into have looked at me crazy because of being out with a Black woman. Maybe cause im a big bald guy with a goatee hehe. I know i had a supervisor when i was in the military here that treated me bad cause of who i dated but i dont worry about those types. I know if i have a problem with an employee i speak up quick cause the last thing a company wants is negative media attention. I know i went to applebees and had a problem with service and went to the manager got a free meal went to IHOP had a problem and got a free meal i havent and wont go back to those stores again and it was based on race why i got served after an hour and half of being there and people around were eating and they sat after us. I say look around an area and see how diverse it is before u move there most of my neighbors are Hispanic but we have no problems and i do see IR couples around. Well sorry if i rambled on but i can go on forever about this subject.
Not Black Not White HUMAN
cuz they think youre either a...what they would call ';n!gger lover'; or ';race traitor';
