I've been wearing my running shoes but my knees are starting to bother me. Are running shoes adequate or should I wear tennis shoes when playing?Any advice on a good pair of tennis shoes? I play a couple times a week.?
You should probably definitely wear tennis shoes! Running shoes don't exactly have the best foot support that is needed in tennis. They are meant for running strait--but in tennis you have to move from side to side and stop and go in quick movements.
I would suggest Adidas Barricade5. I've worn shoes by that brand for as long as I can remember and they are ABSOLUTELY terrific for tennis!! I play tennis 3hrs twice a day and 6days a week and they end up lasting for a good 3 months. You said that you play for only a couple days a week so they'll last you for maybe about a year(maybe even longer)!!
If you don't like the way they look I'll tell you the name of a really cool website that you can make, design, and color your own adidas shoes.
It's ';miadidas.com'; check it out to make your very own custom adidas!
You said your knees are bothering you?
They bothered me too for sometime but that was before I wore adidas. I started wearing adidas and it was the BEST change I had ever made. Trust me! You're gonna love them!Any advice on a good pair of tennis shoes? I play a couple times a week.?
You should get tennis shoes. But right now, you probably don't need to pay over $100 for the high-end ones. Those are really only worth it if you wear through your outsoles extremely quickly. Most of the expensive shoes have a 6-month guarantee on the outsoles, so if you wear through them sooner than that, you get a replacement pair. So they really aren't worth it unless you are burning through shoes that quickly. I mean, those Adidas Barricades are great, but not worth it for a lot of people.
Since you're still using running shoes, and complaining about knee pain rather than durability, you probably aren't wearing them out too quickly. You should be fine with something in the $50-60 range. If you start wearing through those quickly, though, then you can move up to a ';better'; shoe.
I'd recommend the Adidas Barricade II. I've tried a lot of different performance shoes, and this is one of my all-time favorites. Tennis shoes were built for the lateral movement and for traction on the tennis courts. You also need to stretch out and warm up properly. Other good shoes include the Adidas Barricade V, the Kswiss Ascendor, and the Nike Vapor V or VI.

No, I used to use running shoes for tennis. But, I played about 3-4 days a week, and my coach told me I had to get real tennis shoes. If you are really serious about tennis and play at least twice a week, you should get tennis shoes. If you go to a sporting goods store they have an actual tennis section, and you can look it up online.
I totally agree with the other two answers before me. Adidas Barricade's are what I have. I have two different kinds but I don't remember which generation they are. I absolutely love them! Some of my friends say they don't like them because they are heavy but for me, they are perfect. I have sorta a wide foot and I'm always bouncing before I hit the ball so this shoe is perfect for me.
You should definitely wear tennis shoes, I saw that someone above recommended the barricades they are great performance shoes however they are not meant for comfort they are fairly hard shoes I would recommend the Nike Drag-ons they are reasonably comfortable while maintaining a a high level of performance.
I hope this helps :)
