I sober for a week after being an alcoholic for a couple of years. Any advice?

I'm sober and my body feels pretty good. I have more focus also. However, I'm kinda in a rut and a little depressed. Don't really know what to do with myself. Any experienced recovering people out there with helpful advice, or words of inspiration?I sober for a week after being an alcoholic for a couple of years. Any advice?

Now that you have given up alcohol, you need new habits to take the place of the old, bad habits. I suggest you find a branch of Alcoholics Anonymous in your area. Every meeting is different, so you might try a few. There are some that cater mostly to younger people, and others to an older crowd. Many of the younger chapters have dances. Make friends, go to coffee with them, get some good advice from people who have walked a mile in your shoes.

Sure. I've been sober ten years after being an alcoholic for 25 (do I ';win';?).

I'd actually suggest you avoid AA...sorry guys, but my experience with the program just wasn't good.

I do think a support group can be helpful though. I recommend Smart Recovery. Seems the sanest of all the available alternatives.
CONGRATS to you for being sober for a week! That's incredible!

I really don't have any advice, as I've never been there, but I just wanted you to know that you're doing a great job and you're on the right track to staying sober. As others have said, stay busy, exercise, and AA to get help when you need it. Good luck to you!
I recommend this website called http://www.LetsReflect.com

It changed my life鈥?here鈥檚 my profile.

The trick is staying positive and surrounding yourself with positive people. You are capable of great things! I believe in you. Best of luck.

That's really awesome! That's great for you! You should go to a bookstore and buy the AA book or just any book with motivation on staying off the drunken bandwagon. Good luck to you! You've already beat this, don't give up!
Exercise is better than any anti-depressant medication. Trust me, there are multiple studies.

I try to keep busy... what matters is being occupied, not so much what I'm occupied with.
